The City’s Tech Team Just Added Two UX Fellows

It's heartening to see city government incorporating UX Design professionals as they develop and improve their digital services and presence.

The City of Philadelphia believes in this philosophy so much that they hired two (!) UX Fellows. If you're in the business of servicing your citizenship, it only makes sense you design your services with that in mind.

Congratulations to Kim-Thao Nguyen and Robert del Prado! Make Philly proud!

Longing for the Male Gaze

Powerful piece about the intersection of female sexuality and disability.

As harmful as the "male gaze" is to society; the way we render invisible those who are disabled is equally painful. When we strip away an organic part of what makes us human (in this case a person's sexuality), it's damaging to all of us as a greater community. This is a difficult and challenging conversation to have and I applaud Jennifer Bartlett's courage in engaging it.

For Alzheimer's And Autism Patients, This Smart Button Could Save Lives

While I appreciate the simplicity and "MVP" of design of this Proximity Button device, it feels like it's a band aid solution to a more complex problem.

How do we design for the safety of our loved ones in need, but also empower/encourage them for self-reliance? I understand that this device is for the "worst case" scenario and I applaud the effort here; but changing how we approach the design for care is essential to removing the "burden" of care.

How do we design better with technology?
